Chicago Prayer Vigil for the Global Fund

What: Prayer Vigil to promote AIDS issues
When: Wed, April 15 4PM
Where: Outside of Senator Durbin's Office...230 South Dearborn, Chicago
Who: Chicago Women's AIDS Project, RESULTS, GenderJUST, HealthGAP, and other groups involved with AIDS and poverty issues

Around the country, on April 15th prayer vigils will take place to draw attention to global and domestic AIDS issues. The Chicago vigil will take place near Senator Durbin's downtown office building at 4PM. This action is intended as friendly and awareness-building. We want to pray for the efforts of three IL members of Congress in particular (Durbin, Kirk and Jackson) to continue on the path of promoting domestic and global health. All the groups and individuals involved want our tax money to go to humanitarian purposes that will benefit us all.

On the global AIDS front, we want the US live up to its commitments to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. Donor countries (including the US) have been backing out because of the economic crisis and it is causing the Global Fund to suffer shortages. A five billion dollar gap is projected by 2010. We can provide our fair share portion by passing the upcoming a supplemental spending bill with $1 billion for the Global Fund in FY09.

Please join us next Wednesday for a peaceful and positive call for support!
