I just meant it doesn't limit brand, organic vs non, locally grown vs imported, fat content, etc in the food that is purchased.CCYLhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00863723919107019344noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1497896879385906557.post-31845974333815835212008-05-19T15:17:00.000-05:002008-05-19T15:17:00.000-05:00Sadly, probably not. The thing about food stamps ...Sadly, probably not. The thing about food stamps is that the program allows greatest flexibility in how the that benefit is spent. Recipients can buy anything at any store that accepts food stamps. I share your desire to promote organic food for the sake of everyone, poor&wealthy alike, but all it takes is participation in one food stamp challenge (attempting to live on only $21 for food per week) to know that it's hard to make that money stretch organics or no.

But speaking of the flexibility, everyone should have the opportunity to make the organic choice. Last year, I recall seeing articles about organic farmers markets and how they did not have a system (cardreaders) in place for food stamp recipients to buy locally and organically. I think the problem was being worked on and is hopefully resolved by now in some places.CCYLhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00863723919107019344noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1497896879385906557.post-12745994240298380732008-05-19T12:25:00.000-05:002008-05-19T12:25:00.000-05:00Any food bought to help stop hunger(or food stamps...Any food bought to help stop hunger(or food stamps) should come from organic farms. Not only to prmote the health of the person given the food, but also to promote the farmers That are growing organic and give them the wealth to create more for a nation in need of healthy grains, fruites and vegetables.
